Affordable Antique Engagement Rings: Under £700, £1,000 and £1,500

Our budget-friendly edit of antique and vintage engagement rings to show that being on a shoe string does not mean foregoing style.

A beautiful antique engagement ring doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Antique rings often offer more craftsmanship, more character and more gold for the money than new ones, and there are lovely rings to be found at every budget. Here are some of our current favourites, arranged by price.

Under £700

At this level you will find simple, charming rings: small diamond clusters, a single diamond in gold, coloured stones such as citrine and garnet, and Edwardian boat-shaped rings like this one set with a sapphire.

Under £1,000

For under £1,000 there is a wide choice of Edwardian five-stone and three-stone rings, with sapphires, garnets or diamonds, often in 18ct gold, like this five-stone sapphire and diamond ring.

Under £1,500

By £1,500, the choice widens to include Art Deco diamond clusters, platinum three-stone rings and Victorian boat-shaped rings, like this Victorian five-diamond boat ring.

Some of the loveliest rings we have are the least expensive. Buy the ring that makes you smile, not the one with the biggest price tag.

How to make your budget go further

Consider coloured stones. Sapphires, garnets, turquoise and opals give far more presence for the money than diamonds.

Think about clusters. Several small diamonds together look larger than a single stone of the same total weight.

Look at 15ct and 9ct gold. Victorian and Edwardian rings in 15ct or 9ct gold are often very good value; our guide to gold carats explains the difference.

Old cuts. Old mine and old European cut diamonds are often better value than modern brilliants of the same weight.
