They have a wonderful Burgundy red colour and were always rose cut to show this off. This brooch is a lovely design with a sweet bow at the bottom so I am sure that it would have been given to a lady by an admirer }

A fine quality silver and marcasite brooch that was made in the 1920s. It is the form of a basket of flowers within a rectangular frame. It has a pale blue guilloché enamel background. Guilloché is a decorative technique in which a very precise, intricate and repetitive pattern is mechanically engraved into the underlying silver via engine turning then the translucent enamel is applied. A pretty paste and marcasite silver pendant made circa 1910-1925 in France, in the typical delicate style of the period. The French made wonderful delicate pretty jewellery and this necklace is no exception. It was the costume jewellery of the day which imitated the much more expensive diamond, green garnet, pink sapphire and platinum pendant. Having said that this pendant has been hand made and the paste and marcasite have been hand set, a time consuming and pleasing result as wearable today as it was in the early 20th century }

A very pretty 9ct gold back and front heart shaped locket that was made circa 1910. The term "9ct Back & Front" and silver setting means that the paste is set in silver, the front and back are 9ct gold and the inner frames and hinges are metal. It has a swallow with a branch of flowers on one side set with three garnets and white paste. The outside design is unusual as it is scalloped. It opens to reveal two areas for photographs. The swallow was considered daring, risk-seeking, and a symbol of change for good in the future. It also meant “Everlasting love” and “loyalty” as swallows mate for life. What a lovely sentiment to pass on to someone that you love }

It has very fine rich and deep repousséThe raising of a pattern in relief on metal by beating from the under side. More work detail of leaves and flowers on both sides. Repoussé is shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create a design in low relief. Chasing, chased work, or embossing refer to a similar technique, in which the piece is hammered on the front side, sinking the metal. The two techniques are often used in conjunction which may be the case in this piece of jewellery. It hinges open so can be worn on its own or teamed with a bracelet or neck chain}

A very unusual 18ct gold ring that was most likely made in Belgium and imported in to France circa 1900-1910. It is in the Art Nouveau style that was popular at the time with flowing lines that contain the witches heart. By the 18th century, the witch’s heart took on a new meaning. Lovers gifted each other with witch’s hearts as love tokens to symbolise that they’d been “bewitched” with love. This lovely style continued throughout the Victorian and Edwardian periods so this ring would be a perfect engagement ring }
