The Victorians knew what they were doing when they came up with this 18ct75% pure gold (or 750 parts pure gold and 250 parts other metals) More gold carved half hoop design. Five closely set graduated Old European cutGemstones cut in this style have a smaller table than the round brilliant and the overall depth is greater. This style of cutting was popular in the 19th Century and is the direct predecessor to the modern round Brilliant Cut. Similar to the Old Mine Cut. More diamonds in a single line across the finger, with tiny accent diamonds between, renders the metal setting invisible. It is, quite simply a line of sparkle. This ring is a lovely example, dating to around 1890. Each of the diamonds are bright and lively, and the scroll mount raises just a little above the finger, showing off the ring’s profile. As an engagement ring, it would certainly be difficult to say no to.
