Victorian 18ct Gold Aesthetic Movement Ring with Bird Motif & Locket on Reverse

531T
120 Admirers Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

A charming and rare 18ct gold ring that was made circa 1880 during the Aesthetic period. At that time this movement was a reaction to the overblown high Victorian style and artists looked to the Far East for inspiration. Japanese art was greatly admired in its relative simplicity so the Aesthetic period also became known as Japonism. This ring depicts a song bird perched upon a blossom branch in raised gold. It is framed and to the reverse is a secret hinged compartment. There is fine scroll detailing to the edges and the sides of the shank. A wonderful ring to wear.
