Georgian 18ct Gold & Carnelian Ring with Intaglio of Racehorse

567P
885 Admirers Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

An excellent 18ct gold and carnelian ring with a fine engraved intaglio of an elegant horse motif and ‘II I II I AHNA’. This may be an anagram of the horse’s name. The translucent orange carnelian reveals curved internal banding. The stone is held in a closed back setting on a wide flat band with trifurcated shoulders. It was made circa 1840 and is a conversion from a former seal.
