Victorian Silver & Gold Overlay Locket with Spray of Roses Motif

786P
677 Admirers

A lovely Victorian silver locket that was made in Birmingham in 1881. At that time it was very fashionable to wear quite large silver lockets on matching silver collars so this locket may well originally have had a silver and gold overlay collar that it would have attached to. The effect was quite heavy so these lockets look much nicer worn on a silver chain. The main body of the locket is silver with raised decoration. Two colour yellow and red gold have been added to add contrast to the pretty roses design. It opens to reveal two sections for photographs. As with most antique jewellery it sends a secret message of love to the receiver.
