Victorian Ruby & Diamond Crescent Brooch

773K
977 Admirers
Written by Olly Gerrish

A good quality late Victorian brooch with a crescent moon. The crescent is set with well matched rubies with an inner band of diamonds and a central diamond. There is a ruby at each end. The crescent moon dates back to second millennium BC and is the oldest symbol known to man. It became most popular in jewellery in the Georgian and Victorian periods. Crescent moons celebrated the Feminine moon goddess and are associated with female empowerment. They also symbolise change, as it turns into a full moon and then back just like the ebb and flow of life.
