An unusual oval silver and gold overlay locket that was made circa 1880. It features a carol singer in gold. She is holding a Christmas card in her hand. Around her are plants, a tree trunk, and foliage.There is a gold rim. It is strongly influenced by the art of Kate Greenaway (17 March 1846 – 6 November 1901) who was a Victorian children’s book illustrator and writer. The only daughter of a successful draftsman and wood engraver, she studied graphic design and art between 1858 and 1869. It was made in Chester in 1881.
