Victorian 15ct Gold Oval Coiled Snake Locket

Sold

962G/O

A good looking 15ct gold locket that was made circa 1880. It is unusual as part of the design is a snake coiled around the outside edge. This means “Eternal love” in Victorian speak. So it would have been given as a token of love and may have originally contained a lock of hair or a photograph of the loved one. In the centre is a plain oval banded sardonyx which could be carved with an intaglio.
