An unusual 18ct75% pure gold (or 750 parts pure gold and 250 parts other metals) More gold ring that was made in the early 19th century, circa 1820-1830. The amethystAmethyst is the purple variety of macrocrystalline quartz. From the Greek amethystos meaning 'a remedy against drunkedness', it was believed to prevent intoxication and ensure the wearer retains a clear head and quick wit. It was once considered as valuable as ruby, sapphire and emerald. More has been set in a cut down pinch collet setting. This type of setting was typical of the Regency period. On either side is a rope twisted knot design. It would most likely have been given as a token of love.
