Mid Victorian 15ct Gold & Cabochon Garnet Drop Earrings

900K
480 Admirers Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

An unusual and impressive pair of 15ct gold earrings that were made circa 1860-1880 in the Holbeinesque period. They have been set with large carved cabochon pear shaped garnets surrounded by gold rope work . Garnets were often used at this time as they went with the grandiose fashions. This richness of form and colour which had appealed to the Tudor court in the mid 1500s was rediscovered by Victorian jewellers and their patrons. They each have three spear shaped drops.

Ollys Pick

The garnets are such a beautiful ruby red colour and the cut is so unusual.
