Georgian 18ct Gold & Black Enamel Mourning Ring set with a Diamond

421U
240 Admirers
Written by Olly Gerrish

An unusual 18ct gold mourning ring that was assayed in London in 1835.  It is top quality of it’s type and is in the Rococco style with ornate curves and shell detail that was popular at the time.  It has been enamelled in black on the shoulders and in the centre where an old mine cut diamond has been pinched collet set.  The shank is a reeded design. Inside the shank is engraved “Eliz Watson Ob (died) 23 aug 1836 Ad (aged)60”. There is also a glazed locket containing her woven hair. A wonderful and original ring that would be ideal for a collector
