French Early 19th Century 18ct Gold Fede Ring

152S
Rare Find

This style of ring goes back to Roman times. It is known as a “fede” ring which is a design of ring in which two hands meet and are clasped in friendship, love or betrothal. It became prominent in the medieval period from the 12th century onwards and in more modern times. The name fede is from the Italian phrase “mani in fede” or “hands clasped in faith”. This ring was made circa 1820 in France and has been well modelled with a male and female hand clasped together. Both hands have cuffs that have the remains of black and white enamel. The shank is faceted so it catches the light.

A perfect and very unique wedding band.
