French 19th Century 18ct Gold Locket with Flower Motif set with Cabochon Rubies & Rose Diamonds

58Y
405 Admirers

An unusual heavy gauge 18ct gold oval shaped locket that was made circa 1880 in France. It features a rose diamond set lily of the valley, a symbol of purity, joy, love, sincerity, happiness and luck. Lily of the valley is the national flower of France, and on the 1st of May for La Fête du Muguet, it is given to loved ones. There are also two other flowers that could be lilies with ruby centres and rose diamond petals. It opens to reveal two glazed compartments for photographs. Above is a rose diamond set bale that can take a thick gold chain.

A lovely locket to give to someone special.
