A very pretty ring which was made circa 1900-1920 and would make an ideal engagement ring. The BurmaBurma (modern day Myanmar) is one of most celebrated sources of the gemstone, ruby. Coming out of Mogok, known as the 'Valley of Rubies', the gemstones, along with sapphires and spinels, have been sourced there for at least 1,500 years, and are prized for their luminosity. More sapphireBlue is the best-known colour for this gemstone but it can be found in all colours of the spectrum. After diamond, sapphire is the hardest gemstone.
More has been specially chosen as it is a lovely blue. It is surrounded by old mine cutAn 18th, 19th and early 20th century diamond shape, typically cushion or asymmetrical, marked by a small table, a high crown and a large culet. Culets are the small flat facets at the bottom of a stone which appear to the untrained eye as a hole in the middle of the stone.
