Edwardian 9ct Gold Locket with Garter & Swallow Engraved Motifs

949X
Written by Olly Gerrish

This is a really pretty 9ct gold rectangular shaped locket that was assayed in 1912. On both sides are swallows amid sprigs of roses. The swallow was considered daring, risk-seeking, and a symbol of change for good in the future. It also meant “Everlasting love” and “loyalty” as swallows mate for life. Diagonally Across the front of the locket is a belt buckle. The literal meaning is “You are bound to me” So what wonderful secret messages. It opens to reveal two areas for photographs.

What lovely sentiments to pass on to someone that you love
