Star rubies are one of the rarest and most coveted gems in the world so we were thrilled to find this EdwardianJewellery made in the Edwardian era (1901-1914). More ring set with a pretty star rubyA phenomenal gemstone which displays a shimmering six pointed star when viewed under a light source. The star effect or 'asterism' is caused by minute needle-like rutile inclusions within the gemstone. Natural, un-enhanced star rubies are very rare. More. All star rubies are cut in to rounded forms as the curved surface allows the star to be created. It is one of the most challenging cuts due to the three dimensional alignment of rutile needles within the stone. It is really fascinating to look in to this pretty stone. It is surrounded by 14 well matched old mine cutAn 18th, 19th and early 20th century diamond shape, typically cushion or asymmetrical, marked by a small table, a high crown and a large culet. Culets are the small flat facets at the bottom of a stone which appear to the untrained eye as a hole in the middle of the stone.
