Written by Olly Gerrish

An unusual early Victorian 15ct gold ring that was made circa 1840-1850. The top features a pansy set with tiny rose diamonds within a black enamel surround. The pansy sends a message that is a pun on the French “pensée à moi” literally meaning “Think of me”. The top opens to reveal a hidden compartment that may originally have held a lock of hair as this is a mourning ring hence the black enamel which is also on the foliate shoulders.
