Early 20th Century 18ct Gold Signet Ring with Intaglio of a Lion

950W
171 Admirers
Written by Olly Gerrish

A good looking 18ct gold signet ring that was assayed in Birmingham in 1919. It has been engraved with a lion rampant with the motto above “Festina Lente” which literally means “Make haste slowly”. The Onslow family of Shropshire has the adage as its motto, generating a pun upon the family name “on-slow”.

A smart ring to wear with an amusing motto!
