Art Deco Carved Rock Crystal Elephant Brooch

623Y

Written by Olly Gerrish

An amazing platinum Sûreté pin of a male and a female elephant carved in natural rock crystal. It was made circa 1920 and is most likely of French origin. Elephants hold significant meaning in many cultures and symbols of these majestic creatures have been depicted in mythology and religion for thousands of years. In Hindu iconography, elephants are often depicted as vehicles for deities, representing wisdom, strength and divine power.  They also symbolise sensitivity, stability, loyalty, intelligence, peace, reliability and determination, which are all seen in the animal’s nature when observed in the wild.

The elephants are beautifully carved and stand upon rose diamond set dais or raised platforms which could also represent importance and authority.
