Koechly who was known for his high quality work particularly for the Imperial Court. He was based in St Petersburg and held the prestigious title of Court Jeweller to Empress Maria Fyodorovna. This piece features a coiled snake suspending a heart shaped vinaigrette that hinges open so that you can put scented cotton wool inside. There are holes along the top so that you could smell the scent. It is secured with a shuttle shaped cabochon cut sapphire. The snake’s head also has been set with a cabochon sapphire and small rose diamond eyes.
