The Scottish thistle is the national flower of Scotland, and symbolises resilience, bravery, and fierce independence. Its iconic spiky defences represent the Scottish spirit of protecting one’s homeland, while its ability to thrive in harsh terrain signifies the endurance of the Scottish people.
The symbol’s deep roots in Scottish folklore stem from a legendary medieval battle. An invading Norse army was attempting a stealthy night raid barefoot. One of the warriors stepped on a sharp thistle and cried out in pain. This cry alerted the sleeping Scottish army, who repelled the invaders and subsequently adopted the plant as a national emblem of divine protection.

This 15ct gold thistle pendant was made circa 1880-1900 and has been set with a split Tay pearl surrounded by old mine cut diamonds and rose cut diamonds. interspersed with natural split pearls.
It comes on a 9ct gold chain.
