Victorian 15ct Gold Ring set with a Colour Change Sapphire & Two Pearls

An unusual 15ct gold ring that was made circa 1880.  It has been claw set with an oval faceted colour change sapphire with a pearl on either side. Colour change sapphires are truly a phenomenon. They have the exceptionally rare attribute of changing colours from blue to violet. Colour change sapphires will show one colour in fluorescent lighting and another colour in incandescent lighting. It is like owning two types of stones for the price of one!  The shoulders are an openwork scroll design.
