Silver & Silver Gilt, Ruby & Natural Split Pearl Renaissance Revival Necklace

A spectacular and finely made necklace that was made in the 1880s. It is full of strength and symbolism with Renaissance Revival motifs. There are bearded male heads with horns, winged griffins and stylised shells set with rubies and a pearl. These decorative pieces are interspersed with butterfly shaped sections set with rubies and natural split pearls. The main body of the necklace is silver with silver gilt components. The design of this necklace is reminiscent of the designs by Theodor de Bry who incorporated fantastical designs in to his jewellery.
