Written by Olly Gerrish

This is a classic early 19th century 18ct gold mourning ring that was assayed in London in 1828. In the centre is a small glazed compartment that still holds a lock of braided hair. Around it are ten natural split pearls above a black enamel ground.  The trifurcated shoulders have repousse decoration of flowers and leaves and the shank is a fluted design. The later engraving inside the shank is “Elizabeth ToddObt (died)Nov 28th 1898 aet (Aged) 73 yrs.”
