Art Nouveau 18ct Gold Green Enamel & Moonstone Botanical Ring

670Y
51 Admirers Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

A rare 18ct gold ring that was most likely designed and made by Jessie M King for Liberty. It has been claw set with a cabochon cut moonstone. Around it are curved twigs with green enamel. The Art Nouveau period ran from around 1893 -1913. It was a reaction to the stultified formal Victorian designs and a return to nature and plant motifs as in this ring.

Jessie (1875–1949) was a prominent figure of the Glasgow Style and a key member of the “Glasgow Girls”. While most famous for her book illustrations, she was a skilled jewellery designer whose work was sold through Liberty & Co. in the early 20th century. Her pieces often featured openwork and fine wire hand-twisted into loops and flowers and incorporated enamel as in this ring.
