Early Victorian 15ct Gold Ring set with a Garnet & Two Pear Shaped Chrysolites

A47
25 Admirers
Written by Olly Gerrish

A stunning 15ct gold ring that was made circa 1840. It has been claw set with a beautiful almandine garnet. On either side is a pear shaped chrysolite. Chrysolites or chrysoberyls are beautiful stones and have a transparent look that makes a handsome faceted gem. With indistinct cleavage and hardness of 8.5, it’s one of the toughest stones for jewellery purposes. In general, the bright yellow and yellow-green shades are the most desirable colours as in this ring. The pierced shoulders complete the overall look.
