Rare Find
A rare Pre Revolution Russian locket that was made between 1899-1908. It has the Moscow mark for 14ct gold and a Maker’s mark S.T for Samuel Tillander. The Tillander family were highly successful goldsmiths. They originated in Finland then moved to St Petersburg and established a workshop at 28 Bolshava Morskaya near to Carl Fabergé. They also supplied high end pieces to Fabergé to be sold under their name. After the 1917 Revolution the family fled back to Finland where the Tillander business continues to thrive to this day.
This locket is in the Art Nouveau botanical style that was popular at that time and has been set with four cabochon cut sapphires. The gold is a wonderful soft buttery yellow colour. There are two old mine cut diamonds and rose cut diamonds in the leaves. It slides open to reveal an area for a photograph.
