Written by Olly Gerrish

An interesting Arts & Crafts ring that we have attributed to John Paul Cooper who was born in 1869 and died in 1933. He Taught at the Birmingham School of Art, where he was head of the Metalwork department from 1904 to 1907. He was also one of the Artificers’ Guild designers, so an important influence in the Arts and Crafts movement. This 18ct gold has been set with a deep oval cut sapphire that has an approximate weight of just under two and a half carats and is most likely from Sri Lanka (Ceylon) There is a split pearl on either side and leaf and bud detail that continues down the shoulders into a rope motif around the shank.

An unusual ring that would be a great addition to an Arts and Crafts collection.
