Art Nouveau 14ct Gold Lizard Ring set with a Diamond

119Z

Written by Olly Gerrish

An unusual 14ct gold ring that was made circa 1910 and is most likely of Austrian origin. It is composed of two intertwined lizards holding a rub over set diamond. The lizard’s bodies have been beautifully engraved.  At that time the Art Nouveau or Secessionist period influenced jewellery design and lizards often feature in pieces due to their sinuous forms.  Lizards symbolise good fortune and prosperity and renewal as they shed their skin and regrow their tales. So perhaps this ring would have originally been given as a token of love between two people.

Please note that this ring cannot be resized.
