Book Your Virtual ConsultationA wonderful heavy gauge 18ct75% pure gold (or 750 parts pure gold and 250 parts other metals) More gold brooch of a deer’s head by George Lenfant and retailed by Hermes (Paris).
Lenfant was hugely talented and made pieces for Cartier and many of the top Parisian houses.
He studied jewellery both in Paris and abroad before returning home and setting up his own business at the beginning of the 20th Century. His reputation grew and he began to mark his pieces so that, although they would ultimately be sold by the likes of Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Mellerio they would also carry his mark and be identifiable as having originated in his workshop.
Georges was joined in the business by his son Jacques. During the 1960’s and 70’s the Lenfant workshop produced many beautiful and unusual pieces. The defining Lenfant style is the shapes and textures and most of all the high quality of workmanship. This brooch is stunning with huge attention to detail. The deer’s eyes are cabochonA polished, not faceted, dome shaped stone - either round or oval with a flat polished base, primarily used as a cut for phenomenal stones such as cat's eyes and stars.
More sapphires and have been cut so skilfully that they are almost real.
A rare and utterly beautiful brooch.
