Victorian 18ct Gold Rub Over set Opal & Diamond Ring

A stunning 18ct gold Victorian ring that was made circa 1880–1900. It has been rub over set with a cabochon cut opal that has an approximate weight of 1.15 carats and two old mine cut diamonds that have a total approximate weight of half a carat. The opal displays vivid flashes of green and blue with red undertones. A rub over set ring, also known as a bezel set ring, is when the gemstone is completely encircled by a thin, continuous protective wall or collar of precious metal. It is considered the most secure way to mount a gemstone. The solid metal rim guards the stone’s edges against chipping, cracking or knocking loose.
