Victorian 18ct Gold, Opal & Diamond Three Stone Rub Over Ring

982Y
Written by Olly Gerrish

An unusual late Victorian ring that was assayed in Chester in 1892. In the centre is a lovely lively opal with an old mine cut diamond on either side. The stones have been rub over set which means that a thin rim of metal encircles the stones and holds them securely in place. This secure setting method was common in the Victorian period as the smooth prong free design made it ideal for every day wear as it won’t catch on clothing.
