Victorian 18ct Gold Entwined Snakes Ring set with a Garnet

182Z

Written by Olly Gerrish

Snakes have since time immemorial been used in jewellery. They have many meanings and rings such as this one were intended as tokens of love and affection. This style would be worn by both men and women. Snakes featured heavily in the myths of ancient Greece and Rome. They were reviled for their ability to shed their skin, meaning that they were seen as a symbol of regeneration and rebirth. This association with regeneration and fertility suggests links to the Victorian connotations between snakes and eternal love. This examples features two intertwined snakes with a garnet in the centre further emphasising the love theme, and they have tiny rose diamond eyes.

A wonderful ring to wear either as an engagement ring or a dress ring.
