Victorian 15ct Gold Etruscan Revival Bangle

A lovely smart 15ct gold bangle that was made circa 1880. It is engraved on the inside “H. C. L 27th October 1887”. It is typical of the Etruscan Revival period. Although granulation, embossing, and filigree had been used in Mesopotamia and Egypt much earlier, the Etruscans perfected the techniques to a very high level. The delicacy and technical precision were a complete novelty for that time in the 5th to 8th century AD. This highly detailed and complicated technique was rediscovered by Castellani in the mid 1800s and copied by many other jewellers.

It hinges open and has a safe tongue clasp and a safety chain for added security.

This bangle is a good example of the technique.
