More and enamelA pigmented glass-like material used in powdered form and fused onto the metal surface of a piece of jewellery. More pendant which was made in the 1960s by Norman Grant. Grant was born in 1943 in Forres, Scotland. At 18 he went to train at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen, initially studying graphic design and later moving into silversmithing. Having grown up in a coastal landscape, Grant was much influenced by the forms he saw around him, and inevitably these shapes and forms were the first to creep into his early jewels. Many of Grants pieces featured flower stamens, trees, shells. Seaweed, and later fish, wave and cloud motifs. This pendant is one of his tree designs and is a lovely example of his work. Norman Grant’s work quickly became synonymous with the psychedelic “Art Nouveau” floral revival style of the early 1970s, and complimented clothes from designers such as Biba and Mary Quant. In fact his work became so trend setting and was worn by many celebrities such as Sandy Shaw and Mick Jagger, and later Billy Connelly and Elton John.
