A fun pair of solid 18ct gold Port and Starboard lights , one set with calibre cut emeralds, the other with calibre cut rubies. They were made by Cropp & Farr Limited in 1979. The company was incorporated on 28 Feb 1938 and was located in London. Sadly it is no longer trading. The company is known for its very good quality jewellery.

Some fun facts.

The left side of the boat is traditionally marked with a red navigation light and  the right side of the boat is traditionally marked with a green navigation light.

Starboard: Early boats used a steering oar placed on the right side of the stern because most sailors were right-handed. Old English speakers called this the stéorbord (steering side), which turned into starboard.

Port: Because the steering oar was on the right, sailors docked ships on the left side to avoid breaking the oar. This left side faced the harbour (port), so it became known as the port side. 

A perfect gift for a sailor.
