A top quality 18ct gold seal with a grapes and flower motif on the gold. Beneath is a bloodstone engraved with a crest with a lion rampant above and the words “Esse quam videri” beneath. It is a Latin phrase meaning “To be, rather than to seem”. It has been used as a motto by a number of different families. It was made circa 1830-1840. and is believed to be the Pembroke family crest.
