Edwardian Frog Brooch set with Emeralds & Diamonds

156T
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

An amazing and well modelled Novelty brooch that features a frog. In ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, frogs symbolised fertility, while in classical antiquity, the Greeks and Romans associated frogs with fertility and harmony.  His body is silver with gold down the centre, and has been set with specially selected graduated diamonds and vivid green emeralds.  His eyes have been set with  small rubies.   The reverse is gold.  In the Edwardian period, circa 1910, Novelty brooches were very fashionable and they are as collectable and wearable today as they were then.
