Free Australia ShippingThis 18ct gold ring is in pristine condition. It was made circa 1910 and has been set with a beautiful Australian cabochon cut opal surrounded by small well matched bright old mine cut diamonds. The opal is a particularly good specimen and displays a myriad of flashing green and blue colours with red undertones. When Australian opals appeared on the world market in the 1890’s, the Hungarian mines spread the idea that it was not genuine, probably because gems with such brilliant fire had not been seen before. Australia eventually assumed the mantle of premier opal producer of the world, becoming famous for Lightning Ridge’s colourful and rare black and crystal stones. So they were an exciting new stone and became very fashionable in the Edwardian period. The engraved trifurcated shoulders add to the light look of this gorgeous ring.
A beautiful ring that looks stunning when worn.
