Early 20th Century 18ct Gold Multi Gem Brooch Mounted by Cartier, Paris

Written by Olly Gerrish

Multi-gem brooches from Cartier Paris reflect the house’s long-standing “Indian-inspired” aesthetic, most famously represented by the Tutti Frutti style and Indo-Persian motifs. This brooch is an antique Jaipur piece that has been mounted by Cartier in Paris circa 1930. It has been set with Turquoise, rubies , emeralds, sapphires and natural pearls. The meanings are as follows

Ruby.  The Sun.  Power, leadership, and vitality.

Emerald. Mercury. Intelligence, communication, and growth

Sapphire. Saturn  Discipline, focus, and protection

Pearl.  The Moon.  Emotional, balance and peace

The reverse is typical of Jaipur Meenakari enamelling traditional workmanship and has been enamelled in green red and white enamel.
