Edwardian 18ct Gold Tie Pin of a Rabbit with Ruby Eyes in Original Hunt & Roskell Case

866X
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

A beautiful heavy gauge 18ct gold model of a rabbit tie pin. His body has been intricately hand engraved and each of his eyes has been set with a cabochon ruby.  He comes in the original case with the name Hunt & Roskell in gold lettering on the silk interior.  Hunt & Roskell were funded by Paul Storr in 1819 and eventually in 1843 became Hunt & Roskell until 1897. They held the Royal Warrant to Queen Victoria during those years. This tie pin is attributed to them and was made circa 1860-1880.

In some ancient cultures, rabbits were symbols of fertility and prosperity. In greek times they were sacred to Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty.
