Free UAE ShippingA very unusual 18ct gold brooch that was made circa 1880. It features a camel laden with its cargo of natural pearls travelling through Egypt with pyramids in the distance. Some concepts that are symbolic of camels are journeys, wisdom, endurance, survival, self-sufficiency, conservation, and, of course, stamina. It could have been a special commission to commemorate a journey. The attention to detail is amazing with engraved and etched surfaces. The camel has a cabochon ruby in its eye and black enamel detail on the saddle. There is a glazed locket on the reverse. It is in its original tooled leather case.
