A gorgeous 18ct gold Georgian riviere that was made circa 1820. It has been set with twenty two green paste in pinched collet settings. They are open set vivid green coloured pastes (glass) that imitate emeralds as emeralds were a scarce commodity at that time. Many pieces of jewellery were made using different coloured paste and are sought after by collectors today. Georgian paste rivieres are a favourite of Vogue editor Dame Anna Wintour who often wears several at a time. This collar can also be worn as two bracelets as there are two hidden clasps.
A rare survival from the early 19th century.
