Rare Find
A rare 15ct gold brooch that was made circa 1820. It is called an acrostic brooch because the first letter of each gemstone spells “Regard”. The stones are Ruby, Emerald, Garnet, Amethyst, Ruby and a Diamond in the centre. Originating in 18th century France and popularised during the Georgian and Victorian eras, these pieces allowed admirers to convey secret love tokens in plain sight. This brooch has a further secret. The reverse hinges open to reveal a glazed locket compartment that contains hair.
It comes in the original Moroccan leather case with a crimson velvet and silk interior.
