A very pretty heart shaped pendant that was made circa 1900-1910. The opal displays a myriad of colours, mainly blue and green with red undertones. The rainbow effect is because there is a tiny amount of water within the stone. Opals were being imported from the recently discovered mine fields in Australia in the early 1900s so they were a very popular choice in a jewel. Brooches, bracelets, pendants and necklaces were often set with these amazingly beautiful stones.
This pendant is a lovely example.
