Rare Find
A rare 15ct gold Victorian locket that was made in 1852. it is a mourning piece as it commemorates the short life of Edward Montagu Obt (died)2nd April 1852 Aged 16. “The Lord’s will be done” is engraved on the inside. There is also a glazed compartment with a lock of Edward’s hair. The exterior is domed with a snake coiled around the outside. Snakes represented “Eternal love”.
Edward’s father was Henry Robinson Montagu, K.C.B. 6th Lord Rokeby of Armagh.
