The urn was a popular sentimental or mourning symbol in the late Georgian period circa 1800-1820 and this example is in fine condition. It is 9ct gold and has been set with small flat cut almandine garnets. They are a lovely soft purplish red colour. The reverse hinges open so it would most likely originally held a lock of hair.
These days Georgian lockets are very popular and can be worn on a fine trace link chain.
