Rare Find
This is a charming 18ct gold mourning ring that was made in London in 1831. It has been set with black Vauxhall glass and six beautifully matched natural split pearls. Pearls stood for Tears and the black glass was the colour for mourning. The ornate shoulders and fluted shank are typical of the Regency period. At that time it was the custom to have rings made in memory of a loved one or members of the family. It is engraved inside “Ms Sarah Young died 7 April 1832 Aged 72”.

This ring is a particularly good example of a mourning ring.
