Harem bangles are always sought after as they are easy to wear and look great. They originated from the Ottoman Empire and modern examples especially the harem rings are still sold in the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. This ornate bangle is from the Edwardian period circa 1910-1920. It has five 15ct gold bands, held at the back with a straps of gold. It has been set with sapphires, pearls, rose diamonds, rubies and green (demantoid) garnets. Demantoid garnets were mined in Russia, and are much prized for their apple green colour.
